The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% - a high-strength lactic acid superficial peeling formulation.

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 10% formulation offers mild exfoliation and is supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time.

This pH of this formula is approximately 3.8. Lactic Acid has a pKa of 3.8 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximising effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

Alcohol-free, nut-free, vegan.

Note: While Lactic Acid can result in quick visible benefits, we generally suggest indirect forms of skin exfoliation in favour of direct forms such as this formula due to potential inflammation and sensitivity associated with acids.

Directions

Apply once per day, ideally in the PM. Can be diluted with other treatments to reduce strength until skin develops tolerance.

Lactic Acid should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a physician. Sunburn Alert: this product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

Aqua (Water), Lactic Acid, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Isoceteth-20, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best and most affordable Lactic Acid available! Since i used a sample of a well known brand of Lactic acid i have been looking for a cheaper lactic acide that i could gradually use daily on my face. I had to introduce this Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% slowly on a twice weekly basis to start with, gradually moving on to every other day until i felt confudent enough to use every night only as advised in the instructions on the packaging. Slowly this Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% has become a firm favourite as part of my nightly skincare routine every night! I am hooked on mixing this Lactic Acid in equal amounts with another Ordinary product called Argeline Solution 10% of which i am also hooked on using twice daily! I will see in another 3 months how my skin takes to these 2 products being applied together! Both do not react with my skin and work wonderfully together! Must buy more of both as back ups so i don't run out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super gentle exfoliating Love this, very gentle exfoliating every morning except the morning after my tretenoin. I have a very sensitive neck and I’m planning on trying the 5% on that. The 10% has been brilliant at refining my pores and my skin is fairly glowy, give this a try if your unsure start with the 5% and work up….

Can I use this in combination with the Glycolic acid? I have blemishes from past acne that are dark on my face. Everytime I get a new one is very likely to leave a “stai

Asked by: Anonymous
Lactic and glycolic acids are both used as skin exfoliants. Lactic acid can be less irritating than glycolic and I wouldn't use both at the same time. For reduced pigmentation on the skin after blemishes I'd use azeliac acid added to your skin routine.

Please can you tell me does this help with wrinkles? I am looking into it for my mother has has wrinkles due to sun exposure in younger days without spf!

It’s not specifically designed for wrinkles, it mainly exfoliates your face. Retinol might be better for your mum

Hi, can I use this with the Holland and barret vitamin e oil. It contains Sunflower Oil, Vitamin E (as d-Alpha Tocopheryl) (Soya), Lemon Oil.

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us. Lactic acid is an exfoliating, active ingredient so you can use this with your oil as it doesn't contain any exfoliating ingredients. I hope this helps! Many thanks, Laura - Customer Care Advisor

After I’ve applied this do I then apply my usual serum and night cream? Thank you

Asked by: Anonymous
Hey there, If you have not used Lactic Acid before, we would recommend using the The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% to start with while you skin adjusts to this acid. You would apply this exfoliating acid once per day, ideally in the PM as the first serum in your routine after cleansing and toning followed by a serum (if you wish) and your moisturiser. It can be diluted with other treatments to reduce strength until skin develops tolerance. As this product is exfoliating, we would highly recommend using and SPF in the day when using Lactic Acid and to avoid other acids/ retinols when using this product. Hope this helps! Many thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Hey there, We encourage those who are pregnant or breastfeeding to consult with a healthcare professional before using any products. This is because we cannot guarantee they have been tested under these conditions so we cannot guarantee there safety. Many thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can i use this together with Niacinamide?

Asked by: Junna Nelia
Hey there, This can be used with the The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. You would use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% in the morning after cleansing and The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% in the evening after cleansing (start with the lowest formula if you have not used Lactic Acid before so your skin can adjust to the foreign substance). Hope this helps! Many thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can I use it with vitamin c solution and azeluic acid ?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, We would not advise using The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% alongside products containing Vitamin C as both ingredients have exfoliating properties, this means that using them together may over process the skin and cause some irritation. Hope this helps! Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.
